Forgeworld = games workshop?  Empty
PostSubject: Forgeworld = games workshop?    Forgeworld = games workshop? EmptyWed Jul 18, 2012 7:55 pm

i have seen a lot of talk about the integration of Forgeworld modals into warhammer 40k sanctioned events. this talk seems to be driven by a number of things. the first being the push in advertising by GW. its becoming a common place to see forgeworld modals and goods on the GW website. they talk about how exciting they are and the new dynamics they will put on the game. this continues to be supported by the new release of 6th edition and most recent of the imperial armor books. 6th ed has integrated a large number of rules the previously were exclusive to apoc games, and we now see the use of "40k designated" units in Imperial armor.

now what do we make of it all. well this is part of an E-Mail i have received form the UK GW on the topic:

"Hello

Thank you for your email. I am sorry for the time it has taken to reply. We do not use Forge World models or rules in tournaments at the moment but the rules set does is always under review. For events in general the best thing would be to contact the team in the USA as they may have a different arrangement to us in the UK. I hope that this is of help and if you have any problems please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Gareth "

so what does this tell us. well, not a lot. its not news that GW isn't currently supporting FW in tournament play. its obvious that he left an open end here, effectively effectively dodging my question. why? well, if i was to ask about a 3ed party company it answer would be a simple No. but it wasn't he went out of the way to dodge the question.

i'm interested to see what you guys think about this. is GW going to integrate FW, and is if so how?

I think it would be cool if they did, but I think GW is worried that it might unbalance the game. If they did, they would have to either start putting most of the forgeworld rules into the codexes, or they could print a codex or book that covers just forgeworld stuff. I think it would have to be several to fit it all in. That to me seems like the best way to do it. Keep the core of 40k strictly what GW produces, and then allow those that want to buy the additional rules to use most of the forgeworld line.

GW doesn't give a rat's ass about game balance (or their customers, for that matter.) They don't give a definitive answer so you won't stop buying forgeworld models.

The bottom line is that the decision lies with the T.O.; always has.

I suppose at TOMAHAWC we wouldn't be held to any GW standerd. Obviously the announced events Are going to stay as they are, but what do you guys think about an event in the future? Maybe a 2000+ for the 2nd detachment, this would be a way to field superheavys without going full apoc.

As long as the time limits on turns are extended for bigger armys, I don't have a problem with it.

So then, what are the chances of FW models/rules designed for 40k being used? As I gear up towards completing my Death Korps of Krieg army, I am close to having to decide on whether to get the towed earthshaker artillary pieces or basilisks. While the towed guns are what I want as they conform with my vision for the army, no point in getting them if I can't bring them to the table.

farao there were so many emoticons to the left, I just had to use one.

I would love to have a forgeworld open game. Im not saying we are doing, but it would be fun. I will say I have a problem with the availability of the units. Not everyOne has them, and even if they do they may not have the rules to go with it. If were to do so, we would need to restrict the books that units could be pulled from.
